Punishment is not always the solution to the people who commit mistakes and crimes. This is what the selfless supermarket manager proved after he caught a man who was trying to shoplift fruits and drinks.
Radzuan Ma'asan is the general manager of TESCO Hypermarket located in Bukit, Mertajam. Instead of punishing a shoplifter who stole foodstuff he offered him a job after finding out the reason why he was stealing.
“He was not a regular thief. When we questioned him, he immediately confessed; saying that he stole the fruits and drinks because his son was hungry,” he said.
“In my 23 years of experience in the retail line, I had never come across thieves who admitted their act so easily. Most would give all kinds of reasons. He also told us that he was unable to work as he has to look after his three children, aged two to seven,” he added.
This man who refused to be identified needed to find food for his children because he had no money after quitting his job to look after his wife who became comatose after giving birth.
“I had quit my job as a contract worker after my wife fell into a coma during a birth complication last week. She is still warded at the Bukit Mertajam hospital," the man said.
The General Manager offered financial assistance and said that they will help them send his 7-year-old son to school.
